In the year 2003 it entered into a tie up with The International School of Media and Entertainment Studies (iSOMES) of India to offer programmes on journalism and mass media for students in India.
According to the director, MSJ, professor Roger Gafke, "Missouri is generally regarded as one of the best schools. It offers bachelor''s, master''s and doctoral degrees in journalism - news and advertising-related mass media and is offering similar courses in India."

The school created the ''Missouri Method'' of teaching journalism, which is a combination of study about journalism, the daily practice of journalism on the school''s newspaper, TV and radio stations and its Internet services, and concern for the history, cultural, social, economic circumstances in which news and advertising is delivered. Speaking on the association with Missouri, the director, iSOMES, Nalin Kohli said: "The collaboration between iSOMES and MUJ School is the result of sustained efforts between Phill Brooks and iSOMES since October 2002, which bore result in May 2003."

Kohli elaborated, "Recognising the increasing industry demand for quality trained media professionals capable of credible performance, BAG Films Ltd, founded in 1993 decided to launch iSOMES as a truly world-class media education and training institute. iSOMES has a standing collaboration agreement with the Missouri School of Journalism, USA, the oldest and among the most reputed journalism schools of the world. iSOMES courses and teaching methodology are being guided by senior faculty from the Missouri Journalism School. Roger Gafke and Phill Brooks, both highly respected professors in the world of media and working with the Missouri School are on the ''International Advisory Board'' of iSOMEs."

Kohli pointed out that iSOMES mission was to create quality professionals and leaders for the media and entertainment industry. He remarked, "Our greatest USP is the fact that we are implementing the famous ''Missouri Method'' in India, in which students throughout the duration of their programmes learn the secrets of the trade in the classroom, enhance skills in labs and above all get to work in the real-life scenario at the facilities of BAG Films Ltd." He added, "BAG Films'' vast repertoire in television production and its strong network of professional establishment in the media and entertainment industry in India helps us achieve this goal."

iSOMES will offer three full-time, one-year Post Graduate Diploma Programmes, which are: Post Graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism; Post Graduate Diploma in the Art & Craft of Television and Post Graduate Diploma in Media Management. Besides, iSOMES will offer a six-month diploma programme in acting for camera. In addition to these programmes, iSOMES offers various short-duration and skill enhancement certificate programmes and training workshops on subjects like TV production & direction, TV editing techniques, sound management for radio and TV, graphics & show packaging, production & direction for radio, writing skills for print, radio & TV, acting, among other such programmes. The students will get the Missouri certification after the completion of the programmes.

The three one-year postgraduate courses will begin in end July and the other courses like acting and short-duration programmes will commence in September this year.

On placement of students, Kohli said: "BAG Films Ltd has a close association with the major TV channels and has a team consisting of respected, qualified, skilled and creative personnel. Obviously, BAG''s own demand for media professionals and its close association with leading television channels and industry players will help iSOMES provide lucrative placement opportunities to its students."

On the teaching methodology Gafke remarked, "In these applied courses, students work side-by-side with full-time members of the faculty, to produce the morning newspaper for the community and the daily news bulletins and special news and public affairs'' programmes for radio and TV stations," while Kohli added, "It is estimated that the media industry will need over 2 million people in this decade. The widening gap between the existing education and training facilities and the increasing demand for professionals needs to be bridged, with accent on technical excellence."

Contact International School of Media & Entertainment Studies (iSOMES), FC- 23, Sector 16-A; Film City, Noida-201301 (Opposite Zee TV Studio) E-mail: info@isomes.org.
